    Up early for the ride north to Ha Giang. Don't get too settled, it's only one night here. Grab a cold beer by the pool and some local bites before the best few days of the trip.

    Sat, Dec 12—

    Wake up in Ha Giang, grab your crew and hit the road straight into the mountains. Today is all about first views: Heaven Gate, winding passes and the Du Già valley, with local villages and bike engines echoing all around. Tonight it's a local family dinner at the homestay, with happy water and unlimited beer.

    Sun, Dec 13—

    This is the day people talk about long after the loop. Bamboo rafting on the Ban An stream, then bigger mountains, crazier roads and the legendary Ma Pi Leng Pass and Skywalk. It's wild in the best possible way: no corner feels real, and every stop somehow tops the last one. Unlimited beer back at the homestay tonight.

    Mon, Dec 14—

    Culture, history and some of the most iconic landscapes on the loop. Ride to the Lung Cu flag pole at Vietnam's northernmost point, explore Lolo Chai village and the H'mong King's Palace, then dinner in Nam Dam before another unforgettable homestay night.

    The final ride home. One last morning in the mountains with a hike to Lung Khuy Cave (or a nearby waterfall), then a final lunch in Quan Ba. By now the group feels like family and nobody wants the loop to end. Bus back to Mad Monkey Hanoi for the night.

    Early start for our cooking class and bamboo basket boats. First, visit the bustling local market to handpick fresh ingredients, then cook alongside expert local chefs, making Vietnamese favourites like spring rolls, bánh xèo pancakes, phở and more. Then we'll take you to the coconut mangrove forest to ride the river in a traditional bamboo basket boat, see local fishing techniques and get a feel for everyday life in Hoi An. Free afternoon, then join us for the sunset river cruise with five drinks and your own lantern to release on the river.

    Early start for a day trip to the world-famous Ba Na Hills. Ride one of the longest cable cars in Asia to the top of the mountain and out onto the iconic Golden Bridge, held up by two giant stone hands. Take in the views and snap some unforgettable photos, then enjoy the included buffet lunch. Afterwards, head further up to the French Village for the theme park and even more breathtaking views.

Cancellation & refund policy

  • Minimum Numbers: This trip requires 8 confirmed travelers 6 weeks before departure, by October 29, 2026. If it hasn’t reached them by then, we may cancel the trip; if we do, we refund your deposit in full.
  • If We Cancel due to minimum numbers not being met your deposit is fully refundable.
  • If You Cancel After minimum numbers are met, the trip is confirmed and all payments are non-refundable.

Travel insurance: We strongly recommend a policy that includes “Cancel for Any Reason” (CFAR). This is your best protection if you need to pull out due to work, health, or personal reasons.

FAQ — everything you need to know

  • Do I need to have backpacking experience?
    No. This trip is beginner-friendly. All transport, accommodation, and activities are organised for you — you just need to show up ready for adventure.
  • What kind of luggage should I bring?
    We recommend a backpack or medium-sized suitcase (hostels and boats are easier to navigate without oversized luggage).
  • What if I don’t know anyone?
    That’s completely normal — most travellers join solo. You’ll be added to a private Instagram group before the trip so you can connect with everyone ahead of time.
  • Is this a party trip?
    This is a social, high-energy trip with boat parties and nightlife built in — but it also includes beach days, adventure activities, and downtime. You can participate as much or as little as you like.
  • What if I get sick or injured?
    Travel insurance is mandatory. Hosts and local staff will assist you in accessing medical care if needed, but medical costs are your responsibility and must be covered by insurance.
  • Will there be WiFi?
    Yes — all Mad Monkey locations have WiFi, though speeds may vary depending on island location.
  • Is there a payment plan available?
    Yes. You can secure your spot with a deposit, then pay the remaining balance in scheduled installments before departure. All payment deadlines will be shared after booking. Missed payments may result in your spot being released.
  • When should I book my flights?
    We strongly recommend waiting until you receive your “Trip confirmed” email before booking flights. That means the trip has reached its minimum numbers. If minimum numbers are not met, we may need to cancel the trip.
  • Is there a disclaimer I should read before booking?
    The information on this page has been compiled with care and is provided in good faith, but it is subject to change and does not form part of the contract between client and operator. All activities, experiences and itinerary details are subject to availability and may be changed, substituted or cancelled due to weather, safety, local operating conditions or other circumstances outside our reasonable control. Where changes are necessary we will make reasonable efforts to provide a suitable alternative of a similar nature and value.

  • Are international flights included?
    No, international flights are not included. Check-in times and baggage allowances vary by airline and can change, so we recommend checking in online in advance.
  • What are the age restrictions?
    Minimum age of 18.
  • What are the mandatory group rules?
    Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on any trip. Possessing or using drugs contravenes local law and puts the rest of the group at risk. Our philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter, and our team has the right to remove any member of the group who breaks this.
  • What activities are optional on this trip?
    None. Everything listed is already included in the cost of the trip.
  • What emergency funds do I need?
    Access to $200 USD equivalent or more.
  • What should I know about currency and cards?
    The local currency is the Vietnamese dong (VND). The best way to carry money is a debit card, withdrawing local cash from ATMs. Travel with both a Visa and a Mastercard in case of a problem with one. USD, EUR, GBP, CAD and AUD cash is useful for when ATMs aren’t accessible.
  • What if my departure doesn’t reach the minimum?
    Every group departure needs at least 8 travellers to run. If it hasn’t reached 8 travellers 6 weeks before departure, we may cancel it; if we do, we refund your deposit in full.
  • Where will we stay during the trip?
    Every stay is in a Mad Monkey property: Mad Monkey Hanoi and Mad Monkey Hoi An.
